Outside-the-Line Collective is a group of artists seeking to explore the interconnectedness of the way we perceive the world. Each image is divided into sections; each section is randomly given to a different artist; each artist then develops, in their studio, their interpretation of that section in a medium and style of their choosing, unaware of what the whole image is or what the other artists are doing. Once everyone is done we assemble the piece.

Through this process we express both the interdependence and the individuality of our perceptions that contribute to the whole image. Each artist brings a history, a set of knowledge and experience, a story that becomes a part of the whole image. Through the overlapping of these stories a certain unity is developed. It also brings out the differences that bring a frictional dynamic to the piece. These differences can be unsettling, jarring, destabilizing, but its through these differences that we can be exposed to different relationships and ways of seeing.
